Walk into St Clement’s Church Pre-school and you will find a warm welcome and lots of happy, busy children who feel right at home. This is because the defining feature of our pre-school is that it feels like a family.
The pre-school team creates an environment in which the children feel at home, loved, truly known and accepted. Parents come and help in the pre-school, play with the children, bring a snack to share and generally get a chance to enjoy some time with their child. They also gather for committee meetings, coffee mornings, end of term celebrations, garden parties and fundraising events. This is a warm, friendly place where children and their families all feel motivated to get involved.
St Clement’s Church Pre-school is also characterised by a strong connection to the natural world. The garden contains a willow house for story time, a large sandpit, a playhouse, a climbing wall, plants to smell and touch, a water basin that grows interesting plants and water creatures and a raised bed for planting. We sometimes grind wheat and make bread, raise chicks, visit lambing sheds, pick nettles and cook nettle soup and keep tadpoles so we can watch them as they grow. Children are invited to join the Forest School programme in the academic year they turn four when their key person feels they are settled. Once a week we trek off to the woods and as the seasons pass we play in the falling leaves, jump in muddy puddles, scoop up snow, look for tracks, listen to the wind and the birdsong, watch the buds unfold, build shelters with fallen branches and always enjoy hot chocolate and a snack.
The Christian family of St Clement’s Church support the pre-school team and share in our celebrations, conveying the ongoing love and support of the church.
We invite you to visit and to enjoy the peace and the chaos, the laughter, and the many activities we share.
